2. Artist Bio:
A QUT Dance graduate, Kirsty has worked as a performer, teacher, choreographer and mentor to young performing artists. Her current passion lies in capturing the ephemeral nature of movement and dance through the eye of a camera. Her projects in this field include ‘Goodbye, she pines’ ( UnFramed Installation Project Coolum Beach 2015) , Clean Sheets ( USQ Gallery Mother Group Exhibtion 2015 ) The Rabbit and the Hat (collaboration with David Le May 2012) Little Fish (ABC Open 2013 under the mentorship of Ben Tupas) Tender Sand and 1 Hour Play Date (4 Six Movement Collective) to mention a few.
Motion Capture was a project inspired by not only her passion of dance on camera but the work of ReelDance, a Sydney based organisation who formed in 1999 in a bid to grow and support the work of screen-dance culture in Australia. Unfortunately in 2012, ReelDance ceased trade due to funding circumstances, but was a platform long etched in the mind of Kirsty.
In this, its first year, Motion Capture had 30 local applicants apply; photographers, choreographers, dancers, movers, writers and film artists, of which 19 were selected to create short works based around the premise ‘the body must move’. Joined in the bill were featured artist works from the USA, Berlin, Brisbane and Stockholm. Kirsty is delighted to present a sample of works from Motion Capture as part of Unframed 2016 ;
